2008 Spirit of PATA
Throughout 2003-2007, PATA Nepal Chapter (PNC) consistently organized various program to facilitate the travel trade activities in the country. The Chapter in line with the spirit of PATA initiated various promotional campaigns and events to increase the flow of tourist within the country. The program towards promotion is framed for short and long-term action oriented perspectives to lure the existing and potential market. In the recent few years the Chapter has prioritized more on marketing so as to overcome the adverse media publicity against the country. Nevertheless, the Chapter has equally emphasized on developmental and educational programs for and on behalf of its members.
The notable Chapter activities undertaken in over the past five years can be categorized under the following areas:

Marketing and Promotion
PATA Travel Mart 2007, 2006, 2005 and 2004 - PNC has been coordinating PATA Travel Mart from 2004. In 2007, 5 companies participated; in 2006, 4 companies participated; in 2005, 6 companies participated and in 2004, 7 companies participated.
ITB 2007, 2006 – PNC participated in ITB 2006 from March 8 –12 in Berlin Germany, where 16 companies participated. New Nepal brand ‘Naturally Nepal’ was launched internationally. ITB 2007 was held from March 7 –11, 2007 in Berlin, Germany where 6 companies actively participated.
International Destination Expo (IDE), 2007 – PNC this year coordinated Nepal's participation at the Expo in Jeju, Korea from March 25-29, 2007, where one company participated.
South Asia Travel and Tourism Exchange (SATTE) 2007, 2006, 2005, 2004 - In the continuous quest of promoting Nepal's tourism internationally, PNC coordinated Nepal’s participation in the event. In 2007, one company participated; in 2006, 3 companies participated; in 2005, 6 companies participated and in 2004, 13 companies participated.
South East Asia Road Show 2007,2005,2004 - A concept for a Road show was formed on early 2004 and some member companies traveled to South East Asia (SEA) to Bangkok, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. Since then, PNC has been coordinating SEA Road Show by putting together the Nepali participant. On 2007, 11 companies participated; in 2005, 14 companies participated and 2004, 13 companies participated.
Indian Association of Tour Operators, 2006 – PNC coordinated the event from September 7-10, 2007 at Jaipur, India where 2 companies participated.
PATA Go-Before, 2006 - PNC coordinated the event held at Munich on November 2nd, 2006 which was organized by PATA Bavaria Chapter, Germany where 6 companies actively participated.
Nepal Showcase New Delhi, 2005 - Thirteen companies from the Nepalese Travel industry participated in the Nepal Showcase New Delhi on February 9, 2005 coordinated by the PNC.
Destination Nepal Mart, New Delhi, 2003 - This mart was an initiation of the Chapter in joint coordination with Nepal Tourism Board and Nepal Airlines. It was held on February 19, 2003 at New Delhi where 12 companies participated.
Destination Nepal Promotion, Kuala Lumpur 2003 – This event was again a joint coordination on the occasion of inaugural flight of NAC on 31st March, 2003. On this same occasion besides the celebration of flight inauguration, a platform for interaction for industry people was provided during the cocktail dinner inviting important Malaysian Tourism industry people and senior government officials. Twenty- four companies actively participated.

Workshop/Seminar
Seminar on Crisis Management, 2007 - PNC with sponsorship from NTB, Nepal Airlines Corporation, Himalayan Times a leading national daily, Shikhar Insurance, tourism professionals, national carrier and journalists conducted a seminar on Risk and Crisis Management on January 25, 2007 at the Soaltee Crowne Plaza, Tahachal. Over-all there were 90 participants. The instructor for the seminar was Mr. Bert Van Walbeek.
Communication Seminar, 2007 - PNC organized a communication Seminar on April 6th, 2007 by Mr. Thomas King, a communication expert from Australia. The topic of the seminar was "Nepal Post Peace Accord Communications Workshop. Tourism professionals, various associations, Ministries Officials and journalists actively took part in the seminar.
China Outbound Seminar, 2004 - PNC and NTB with close cooperation of PATA Headquarters organized a two-day seminar on China Outbound from July 12 –13, 2004. The main objective of this seminar was to disseminate the most updated information on the Chinese outbound market. Fifty-four participants from the spectrum of travel industry actively participated in the program.

Product Development
Launch of Buddhist Brochure, 2004 - Lumbini for a long time has been renowned for its sacred importance, but besides its holy image it is equally affluent in its natural beauty and ethnicity. PNC along with NATO with a view to promote Lumbini as a destination launched a comprehensive ‘Buddhist Brochure’ during the occasion of 2nd World Buddhist Summit in November 2004. The brochure collectively relates the holy image of Lumbini with its destination prospective. Buddhist Brochure covers brief description of four holy places in Buddhism situated in Nepal and India with a sample itinerary of eleven-day complete tour package to all these places. The brochure is distributed free of cost to all PATA members and non-PATA members.

Miscellaneous Activities Interaction Programs 2007, 2006, 2005 - Besides the regular meetings, the Chapter also organizes regular interaction programs with NTB, local travel related associations and Medias.
Interaction program with newly appointed Ambassadors, 2007 - PNC in coordination with 6 other local Travel related Associations NATTA, HAN, NATO, NARA, NMA, TAAN and NTB organized a interaction program with newly appointed ambassador designates on November 5, 2007 at Radisson Hotel. This was to share information and inform how crucial role they play in development of tourism in Nepal.
Interaction with newly appointed CEO, 2007 - PNC organized an interaction program with newly appointed CEO of Nepal Tourism November 6, 2007 with the Chapter's Executive Members.
Cocktail Reception 2007 – PNC hosted a cocktail reception on October 14, 2007 for Members, President and Secretaries of various tourism related Associations enhance bonding and better understanding.
In the honor of Mr. Tunku Iskandar, Past Chairman and Life Member of PATA, Chapter hosted a cocktail reception on 12 May, 2007 at Rum Doodle Restaurant, Thamel.
Presentation on "Effective Human Resource Development", 2007 - PNC in coordination with Nepal Association of Tour Operators (NATO) coordinated a presentation on "Effective Human Resource Development", on 1st July, 2007.
PATA Foundation, Silent Auction 2007, 2006, 2005, 2004, 2003 - In acknowledgement to the noble cause of PATA Foundation, PNC has been continuously contributing since 1991.
World Tourism Day 2007, 2006, 2005, 2004, 2003 – PNC has been celebrating the World Tourism Day by coordinating and supporting various programs. To mark the World Tourism Day on September 27, 2005, PNC in coordination with NTB launched a PATA VIP Card. The VIP Card was introduced for the first time and total of 10,000 cards were distributed within the period of one month to the foreign tourist arriving at the Tribhuvan International Airport. 15 members supported in launching of the card.
PATA Annual Conference 2006 - The 55th PATA Annual Conference was held from April 23 –27, 2006 in Pattaya, Thailand where Chapter bagged two prestigious awards – Award of Excellence by PNC and PATA Imex Face of the Future by Mr. Shikher Prasai – Chairman, PNC.
50th year of the diplomatic ties between Nepal & Japan, 2006 - Marking the 50th year of the diplomatic ties between Nepal & Japan, PNC held an interaction program on August 14, 2006 at NTB to discuss how the tourism industry can celebrate this event to attract more Japanese tourist to Nepal.
PATA Officials Nepal Trip, 2005 - On February 2005, PATA Chairman Mr. Ram Kholi and PATA President and CEO, Mr. Peter de Jong visited Nepal. In a special meeting with the PATA Executive Committee members, there was a brief interaction concerning the activities of PATA Nepal Chapter and the delegates expressed their keen interest to help the Nepalese Tourism Industry in the best possible way.
PATA Compass, Nepal Feature 2005 - In coordination with PNC, this first ever Nepal features in PATA Compass in its November/December 2005 issue provided insight into the uniqueness of the country, the diversity of tourism products, and the safety of the destination.
Tsunami Relief Fund, 2005 - In aid to support the Tsunami victims, the Chapter on January 2005 organized Tsunami Relief Fund – a charity event to generate funds and support PATA in rehabilitating the Tsunami victims. The event successfully generated $4,100 making it the highest donation and was handed over to PATA Foundation Tsunami Relief Fund for execution of recovery projects in Thailand and Sri Lanka.

Snow Lion Expedition Group, 2005 - Two separate interaction session with Snow Lion Expedition Group and Cross Section Publication India was organized on May and July 2005. The program with the expedition group disclosed facts on their experience on adventure tourism and impact of travel advisory of United States.
Cross Section Publication India, 2005 - Likewise the interaction program with Cross Section Publication discussed on new products and new services and development of MICE market in Nepal. The interaction received a substantial coverage in Indian print media.
‘Nepal beyond the Mountain’ - PNC has developed a promotional CD – ‘Nepal beyond the Mountain’ with support of UNDP and Department of Tourism, HMG. This interactive film has been translated into four different languages namely, English, German, French and Japanese. Over 600 CD were handed over to NTB for its promotional use. The Chapter has also produced an E-brochure comprising comprehensive details of member organization. The CD’s are used as promotional tools during international travel fairs.
50th Mt. Everest Golden Jubilee Celebration, 2003 - PATA together with other Associations including HAN, NATO, NATA, TAAN and Shangri-La Hotel hosted two luncheon functions on the 28th & 29th May, 2003 in honor of the summiteers, who have scaled Everest in the last 50 years.
The Chapter coordinated TAAI Northern Region Members visit from June 20-22, 2003 and has helped strengthen relationship between the two associations.
Jazzmandu 28th February-15th March, 2003 – The 2nd Kathmandu Jazz Festival from February 28 to March 15, 2003 was co-promoted by the Chapter. This was done with the intention of disseminating maximum benefits to our members by being able to organize in different venues, of our member hotels, and use air and road transport and other services of our other members for the widely stretched event over a period of two weeks.
Articles were also published in Germany, Amsterdam and India and released in Spotlight and Melbourne Age.
Environment and Heritage Fund - Yearly our members make contribution towards the Heritage funds of the Chapter. In 2003, a traffic island was built in Maitighar, Kathmandu. From the last AGM we had a proposal for the change in name from Heritage fund to 'Environment and Heritage Fund'. It also passed to be involved in carbon reduction program. End of this year we have planned on having a tree plantation program involving the members, different tourism related associations, media and the locals.
News and Updates - PNC has been sending regular updates on the tourism front to PATA News. Similarly, we also forward PATA News and upcoming events to all our members.
Self Sustaining Secretariat - The chapter is self sustaining from its inception and has a full time secretariat with Staffs helping in coordinating events and day to day activities.

The governing body of Chapter consisting representatives from Ministry, National Tourism Organization, the national carrier and the dignitaries and representatives from the tourism industry has lead the organization with a visionary leadership for the development of tourism. PNC has always mobilized its effort to reposition Nepal’s image in international market as beautiful and safe nation. The Chapter therefore has been to the right market at the right time. The initiative of PNC has always been supported, acknowledged and appreciated by members, non-members, Government and society.
